Blue Jeans, white t-shirt
Until the 1950’s the t-shirt was considered underwear. The iconic combination of blue jeans with a white t-shirt made popular by legends such as James Dean and Marlon Brando, changing casual fashion forever.
Amsterdam is our inspiration and offers a blueprint for our collections
The toughness of jeans, formerly only workwear, and the comfort of t-shirts are as important as ever. Our t-shirts are made to last and often tell an interesting story. The most recognisable t-shirt carries our jeans “pocket flasher”, this is the card you can find on the backpocket of every pair of new Amsterdenim Jeans. We love this, made by Amsterdam sign painter Martijn Krabman, so much that you can also find it on canvas bags, coffee mugs, beer coasters and inside our jeans. It took Krabman 3 full days to hand paint this in 2,5 by 2,5 metre format on the wall of our Amsterdam showroom.
From Amsterdam to New Amsterdam
New York City was founded as New Amsterdam. Most common Dutch names at the time were JAN and KEES. To mark the special connection between two great cities, we made the JAN-KEES shirt. The story of two cities sharing the same DNA, openness and ambition translated into on of our best selling shirts ever.
Indigo dyed poloshirts
Our basic poloshirt has been a staple in our tops collection for years now. The RIJKMAN polo is made of 100% cotton pique and features our iconic AOP logo design. It comes in several shades of blue, each and every one of them unique as they are indigo dyed. Another example of subtle story telling is the BOOMSMA t-shirt and poloshirt with the leaves of the most common tree in Amsterdam on them, the Elm Tree.
Proud of Amsterdam, Freedom and PRIDE
We are proud of Amsterdam and what she stands for. Creativity, diversity, openness and freedom are among the most important and valuable characteristics of this beautiful city. One of our most recognisable t-shirts is DUIJFF t-shirt, with Amsterdenim XXX on the back. DUIJFF means pigeon in old Dutch spelling. The pigeon and dove represent both freedom, peace as well as the daily struggle of a city bird. The AAD logo tee in rainbow colors, the Diamond tee and the IAMYOUMAN tee were first released in 2019 for PRIDE as an exclusive collab with Zalando. Not just during Pride month, but every day we are proud to represent a place as well as a philosophy where people can be who they are.
